The Lake Turkana Wind Power project is the largest single private investment in Kenya's history.
Comprising 365 turbines covering an area of 162 km², the wind farm – among Africa's largest – will provide reliable and low-cost energy to Kenya’s national grid.
The local wind conditions allows the windfarm to produce enough energy to meet 20 per cent of Kenya’s energy demand, meaning that the need for oil imports will decrease in future.
Altogether, the project has created significant benefits for Kenya in terms of economic development, job creation, and environmental conservation, while it may inspire neighbouring countries to take advantage of local wind conditions for renewable energy production.
