Östrand pulp mill, Sweden

SCA is extending Östrand pulp mill in Timrå municipality, more than doubling its capacity.

The pulp mill will double its production capacity from 430,000 tonnes to 900,000 tonnes and will have one of the biggest production lines for bleached kraft pulp in the world.

There is huge demand for bleached kraft pulp due to the growing demand for tissue paper.

The new extended mill was one of the biggest industrial investments in Sweden in 2017.

Östrand also produces 95,000 tonnes of chemical thermo-mechanical pulp – CTMP – for hygiene and packaging products, among other things.
