reopened line in edinburgh

The Borders Railway Project reopened the 50km-long Waverley Line between Newcraighall near Edinburgh and Tweedbank in the Scottish Borders. The line was closed in 1969, leaving the region with no railway access.

This finally changed in 2015, when the railway reopened.

For the new railway, COWI had designed a series of new cuttings through soil and rock up to 14m high, and several new embankment structures. At many points, the new track alignment required earthworks to be modified and remediated, including rock fill repairs and rock fall protection. COWI provided site support during the works and designed the remediation of two tunnels.
