Busiest bridge with 49 million vehicles per year

Built between 1957 and 1962, the Champlain Bridge is the busiest bridge in Canada with traffic estimated at approximately 49 million vehicles per year.

In 2001, COWI provided expert advice to the owner for the replacement of the concrete deck with a steel orthotropic deck during short night-time closures, advised on fatigue details and helped resolve fabrication problems.

Between 2009 and 2014, COWI successfully implemented a repair program for the bridge that minimized interruptions to the traveling public.
