Dubbed 'the most beautiful bridge in the world'

Dubbed 'the most beautiful bridge in the world' by local residents and engineering aficionados alike, the Hålogaland Bridge crosses the deep waters of Rombaksfjorden in the municipality of Narvik in northern Norway. With a main span of 1145 m, Norway's second longest suspension bridge reduces the distance between Narvik and Bjerkvik by 18 km.

Rising 179 m above sea level, the bridge blends in to the mountainous scenery, including the iconic neighbouring peak the Sleeping Queen. As the project engineer, COWI provided the basic and detailed design for the bridge. The architect for the project is Dissing+Weitling architecture.
