High speed railway underneath lam tsuen park

The Hong Kong – Shenzhen Express Rail Link is scheduled to open in late 2018, slashing journey times between the two megacities.

COWI designed the 2.6km tunnel which carries the high speed railway underneath the Lam Tsuen Country Park in Hong Kong.

The twin-bore single-tracked tunnel with an internal diameter of 7.8m was formed through hard rock using drill and blast techniques.

COWI was responsible for the temporary tunnel and shaft rock support, and the detailed design of the permanent tunnel linings which were optimised to provide cost and programme savings.
