more passengers and less travel time

The modernisation of the InterCity Østfold Line (Østfoldbanen) is one of the largest railway development projects in Norway. The project will increase capacity for passenger and freight transport and improve punctuality, frequency and travel time. Today, the line carries 2.5 million passengers per year and has huge capacity challenges.

The project presents unique challenges as train speeds need to be increased while protecting the surrounding urban areas. Furthermore, the region is characterised by difficult soil conditions, complicating the construction work.
