Lisbjerg is one of Denmark’s largest urban development areas. It covers 440 hectares located 7 km north of Aarhus’s city centre and will expand over the next 40 years to accommodate approximately 25,000 new inhabitants.
One challenge is that the new city is being built while it is being planned, which means working at many different levels of detail at the same time. Pipelines and drainage of selected subdivisions must be considered at the same time as plots of land are offered for sale and the framework for the overall planning is determined.
Framing and managing a city development of this size, time frame and character requires a holistic and strategic approach, with close collaboration between many different parties and a broad academic foundation across a wide range of specialist areas.
