Pioneering tunnel to future-proof Metro Vancouver’s transport links

The Fraser River Tunnel Project consists of a new eight lane immersed tube tunnel under the Fraser River in British Columbia (BC), Canada. The project is desperately needed to service the fast-growing Metro Vancouver region, which at present is experiencing severe traffic bottlenecks.

The tunnel will have three general purpose traffic lanes and one bus lane in each direction, as well as a cycle path and pedestrian walkway, to provide a multi-modal transport link across the river.

The tunnel has been designed to include pioneering flood control systems, ensuring it can remain operational during extreme river flows and in the face of rising sea levels. As a key transport link within BC, the Fraser River Tunnel will facilitate greater economic growth and trade throughout the region.
