Do you have experience with automation and communication systems for high-voltage substations? Can you lead technical work packages and coordinate specialist contributions to deliver an integrated solution? Join COWI as our new Technical Lead and contribute to the development of Denmark’s electricity transmission infrastructure.

Take technical responsibility for substation automation projects
We are looking for an experienced engineer to take technical responsibility for substation automation and communication systems in high-voltage substation projects. You will work on projects ranging from new substations to extensions, refurbishment and replacement of systems at existing sites. You will coordinate specialist contributions, manage technical interfaces and ensure that individual work packages meet the requirements of the overall substation automation solution.

The role combines technical expertise with responsibility for coordinating engineering activities, monitoring progress and ensuring the quality of technical deliverables. You will work closely with the project manager, technical specialists and other engineering disciplines throughout project execution.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and coordinate the technical delivery of substation automation and communication systems.
  • Plan and follow up on engineering activities, technical deliverables and milestones within your scope.
  • Coordinate specialist contributions and ensure consistency across technical work packages.
  • Ensure that technical solutions and documentation comply with project requirements, customer specifications and applicable standards.
  • Manage technical interfaces between automation, communication systems, protection systems, primary equipment and auxiliary systems.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues in collaboration with specialists and other engineering disciplines.
  • Participate in project meetings and advise the project manager on technical matters, dependencies and risks within your area of responsibility.
  • Coordinate technical activities with customers, suppliers and other project stakeholders.

Your expertise
You combine a strong technical foundation with a structured approach to planning and coordination. You can assess how individual systems and specialist contributions fit together, communicate technical requirements clearly and follow through on agreed actions.
You work independently and build effective working relationships with colleagues, customers and project partners.

You will also bring:

  • A degree in electrical engineering or an equivalent technical qualification, together with more than five years of relevant experience in automation for high-voltage substations.
  • A solid understanding of substation automation systems, including control and monitoring functions, communication networks and interfaces to protection equipment.
  • An understanding of how substation secondary systems interface with high-voltage primary equipment.
  • Experience coordinating technical work packages, planning engineering activities and following up on specialist deliverables.
  • The ability to assess technical solutions, manage interfaces and maintain an overview of quality, progress and dependencies.
  • Professional proficiency in Danish and English, both written and spoken.
  • The ability to obtain the required security clearance and fulfil the requirements for the designated on-site role of “holdleder” at high-voltage substations.

Your place of work
Depending on project requirements, you may work from one of COWI’s offices in Denmark, at Energinet project locations or partly from home. Travel within Denmark is expected.
