Specialist within Operation & Maintenance of Bridges

Warsaw/Wroclaw

Permanent
Hybrid

Do you share our passion for existing bridges and structures? Do you have broad experience in inspections, condition assessments, maintenance planning or refurbishment design? We are looking for an experienced engineer who can turn inspection findings and specialist input into practical solutions for our infrastructure clients.

Create Solutions that will enable a better tomorrow

To help our clients to design, operate, maintain, repair or renew their structures, we are looking for an experienced specialist to join our team. The main focus for this role will be to work on Danish Operation & Maintenance projects.

In this role, you will work as a technical specialist on Danish operation and maintenance projects. You will connect inspection findings, structural assessments, durability considerations and client requirements and translate them into clear recommendations and repair solutions. You will typically contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from planning inspections and defining investigation programmes to preparing refurbishment designs, tender documents and technical input during construction. You will work closely with Danish project managers, and specialists in structures, materials, geotechnics, roads, rail and environment.

Your key responsibility/activities will depend on your experience but will most likely be:

  • Designing and documenting refurbishment works, including repair descriptions, drawings, quantities, specifications and tender material.
  • Coordinating interdisciplinary input and perform technical and quality reviews in accordance with COWI’s accredited quality management system.
  • Preparing scopes, fee estimates and task plans for smaller technical assignments and following up on progress, interfaces and deliverables.
  • Assessing inspection results, drawings, calculations and available asset data to identify defects, risks and further investigation needs.
  • Planning and specifying general, principal and special inspections, including access requirements, traffic or railway constraints and input from relevant specialists.
  • Developing maintenance, repair and renewal strategies based on condition, remaining service life, constructability, client priorities and whole-life considerations.
  • Preparing technical notes, decision memorandums and concept designs that compare different strategies and provide clear recommendations to the client.
  • Contributing to lessons learned, reusable repair details and the development of digital and data-driven operation and maintenance methods.

Our current portfolio includes assignments relating to Langebro and Knippelsbro bridges in central Copenhagen, the New Lillebælt Bridge, Farø Bridge, Møn Bridge, Great Belt Bridge, framework agreements for the Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet), but also many other customers like municipalities and energy companies.

Your Skills. Our Team. Together we create the future
You will succeed in this role if you enjoy solving multidisciplinary practical problems and are able to work well with incomplete or fragmented information. You communicate conclusions clearly, involve the right specialists at the right time and take responsibility for delivering technically sound and usable advice to clients and project managers.

We expect that you have:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience with operation and maintenance of bridges, tunnels or other civil structures, with diverse experience across multiple skills such as inspections, condition assessments, repair design, tender documentation or construction follow-up.
  • A broad understanding of structural behaviour, deterioration mechanisms, materials and repair methods.
  • Experience with railway structures or projects is an advantage.
  • Professional communication skills in English, both written and spoken, and the ability to prepare concise technical documentation for colleagues and clients.
