Public transport is often seen as a way to reduce CO₂ and road traffic. However, construction of a light rail, for example, also has an impact on local air quality, urban cohesion and access to experiences. In Odense, COWI has managed the assessment of the environmental consequences in connection with the new light rail, which will run as a spine across the city and create an even better connection between the homes in the city, education, workplaces and retail. The purpose of the environmental impact assessment has been to support the most sustainable solution and calculate the magnitude of short-term and long-term impacts.
