Project preparation for water and wastewater development in 23 municipalities in Turkey

Turkey has decided to improve its water and wastewater services and has embarked on a large project preparation to contribute to fulfilment of EU directives within water and wastewater.
COWI has been awarded two parallel EU-funded contracts to assist Turkey in their preparations for large scale investments in the water and wastewater sector in selected municipalities spread over the entire country.

Preparing access to drinking water

The project will cater for water supply development in eight municipalities with a total population of about 0.5 million. The estimated construction cost is about EUR 100 million.

This project is being carried out by a consortium consisting of COWI, COWI SNS, the Belgian-British company MWH, and the Turkish company Su-Yapi with COWI as lead partner.

Wastewater treatment plant projects in 15 municipalities

The project will cater for wastewater development in 15 municipalities with a total population of about 1.9 million. The estimated construction cost is about EUR 300-350 million.

This project is being carried out by a consortium consisting of COWI, COWI SNS, and the Turkish companies UBM and ENCON with COWI as lead partner.

Project services

On both projects, services include:

  • Inception studies
  • Master plans for water and wastewater
  • Preparation of financial and operational performance improvement reviews
  • Feasibility studies for water and wastewater
  • Preparation of applications for EU IPA funding
  • Designs and tender documents (FIDIC Red and Yellow Books) for water supply and wastewater investments
  • Capacity building of staff in the 23 municipalities
