In the first six months of the year, COWI increased its profitability (the EBITA* margin) from 4.8% to 7.0%. Organic growth continued, coming in at 7%, while the order book grew by DKK 549 million to DKK 6.3 billion. ”Our results reflect that our customers continue to invest massively in the green transition and that there is a vast need for sustainable solutions within infrastructure, energy and construction,” says COWI's CFO Natalie Shaverdian Riise-Knudsen.
Just over two years ago, COWI launched its new strategy, FUTURE-NOW, which aims to drive growth by prioritising the company's core markets in Scandinavia, the UK and North America.
”We can confirm that we've created the desired organic growth by targeting our resources and investments. In general, all indicators point in the right direction. Our profitability has been strengthened significantly, customer satisfaction is at a record high, and our order book is fuller than ever," says Natalie Shaverdian Riise-Knudsen.
And these results were indeed achieved during a time of major transformation in COWI.
”Naturally, we're proud that COWI is often the preferred partner for large and complex construction projects. We want to maintain this leading position going forward, and that calls for massive investments in strengthening our competencies and knowledge to ensure we stay relevant. At the same time, we also need to invest millions in new technology to become more efficient. To do all that, we need to increase our earnings. And that requires transforming COWI. For instance, we recently implemented a new, flatter organisation that boosts our agility, strengthens knowledge sharing across the Group and reduces our costs considerably," she adds.
She expects COWI to keep up the pace for the rest of 2024.
”Despite geopolitical tension and some inflation, I don't see that affecting our markets negatively. Our order book is growing nicely, and we have plenty of projects to dive into, so 2024 looks to become a good year for COWI," concludes Natalie Shaverdian Riise-Knudsen.
