Join the upcoming COWI webinar on the 25 of August – a live discussion together with key stakeholders.
While sustainability may take a backseat in some decisions due to geopolitical pressures, there remains an interest in pursuing green practices where possible. In our next Morning Fuel broadcast, key stakeholders join us in the Lyngby Studio to explore how to balance security and sustainability in this evolving landscape.
Denmark is currently ramping up on defence, spending billions on hardware, infrastructure and human capabilities. Triggered by increased international security uncertainties and the rising strategic significance of the Arctic, efforts are thus put in place to update and build out the Danish Navy.
The development is happening on the backdrop of continued dangers of climate change and the environmental strains to the fragile Arctic ecology. Ensuring a safe, sustainable and liveable future requires getting all the balances right. There is a recognition that ‘green’ initiatives and sustainability may not consistently be at the forefront of decision-making because of the war in Ukraine and the prevailing geopolitical climate. However, is there still considerations and a will to prioritise sustainable practices on areas where they are feasible and make the most sense?
In our series of live “Morning Fuel” broadcasts, we have yet again invited leading stakeholders to our Lyngby Studio for a unique insight into the current state of affairs and to discuss the best possible way forward.
During the 45-minute session we will among other topics be discussing:
• The role of marine fuels from a defence perspective and where we currently stand from a regional and global security viewpoint.
• The technological challenges faced when trying to balance all needs.
• Lessons learnt from the civil maritime sector.
In the COWI studio we will be joined by among other:
• Bo Cerup-Simonsen, CEO, Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping
• Claus Lundholm Andersen, Rear Admiral and Deputy National Armaments Director.
• Lars Bo Larsen, Executive Director of the National Defence Technology Center and former Danish ambassador to the EU’s Foreign and Security Policy (PSC/COPS)
• Nikolaj Christoffer Lundsteen, Market Director for Defence, COWI A/S
The session will be moderated by Jakob Dybdal Christensen, Market Director, COWI.
If you would like to listen in and take part in the discussion on the 25th of August 2025 at 8.30-9.15 please sign up for the event here.
