NEW WEATHER STATIONS FOR THE DANISH METEOROLOGICAL INSTITUTE (DMI)

Planning Solutions

As main consultant to DMI, COWI assists in renewing DMI's entire observation network of weather and precipitation stations in Denmark and Greenland, and central IT systems for, e.g., receipt and distribution of meteorological data.

The systems supply meteorological data used by DMI for weather forecasts and by its partners – including the Danish Defence, airports and meteorological institutes across the world.

For this reason, high demands are made on data supply reliability and, in turn, on the technology within the monitoring stations and related IT systems.

The project aims to build an up-to-date observation network that meets DMI's strict operating requirements and optimises operating costs. To this end, a general IT architecture and a modern IT platform are established along with uniform hardware components in monitoring stations.
