Technical Director, Air quality and climate
Our cities are getting warmer, due to climate change and denser construction, and this is linked to increased health risks. This is one of Marie's areas of expertise and a topic she has worked extensively on throughout her career.
She completed her PhD in urban climate at the University of Gothenburg in 1999. After working for many years at IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, she joined COWI in 2014 where she initiated work on air quality and climate. She was also behind starting the research and development efforts at COWI in Sweden.
The projects she works on at COWI often involve helping municipalities and urban developers to map how heat radiation affects the urban environment, and what measures can be taken to create protection and shade. Since 2023, Marie has been the chairperson of the Swedish Air Quality Association, SLF.
