COWI has been awarded the assignment to support Sporveien in the multidisciplinary design and planning of works on the Røabanen in 2028. The Røa Line is a key part of the public transport network in western Oslo and Bærum, transporting a large number of passengers daily between home, school, and work. Large parts of the infrastructure are approaching the end of their technical lifespan. Sporveien is therefore planning a comprehensive upgrade during the summer of 2028.

The project will benefit thousands of daily passengers in Oslo when the upgraded line reopens after a summer closure in 2028.

Planning Within a Short Time Window

“For the thousands of people who travel on the Røa Line every day, this is about ensuring that the metro runs when it is supposed to,” says Erik Sundet, Division Director at COWI.

COWI is committed to creating value for the client and is providing a strong team that will contribute with sound technical solutions to be implemented within the planned closure period. The design work covers the entire process, from the preliminary design phase to detailed engineering and follow-up during construction.

“This requires holistic planning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensuring that we facilitate safe execution. The goal is to provide passengers with a metro line that has a long lifespan and high operational reliability,” says Sundet.

We appreciate the trust placed in us through this assignment. We will contribute to ensuring that the Røa Line receives a robust and reliable solution with a long service life. This requires strong interdisciplinary planning and solutions that can be implemented efficiently within the short closure window. Together with Sporveien, we are facilitating a predictable execution process and minimizing disruption for passengers.
