The Hising Bridge, which spans the Göta River in central Gothenburg, is a landmark and an important contributor to the city's development on both sides of the river. With a 440-metre-long span and an impressive 48-metre-wide lift span, the Hising Bridge is an iconic structure that not only connects neighbourhoods but also has many innovative features.
The Hising Bridge is a lift bridge that facilitates mobility across the river and improves access to the city centre. It has two access ramps and a connecting bridge for public transit, strengthening Gothenburg's infrastructure and enabling a smoother commute for residents.
Careful planning, engineering and analysis helped ensure the bridge's long-term resilience, safety and efficiency. From robust foundations to smooth traffic flow and reliable operations, every element was designed to support the movement of people and goods across the city. The result is a bridge that balances the needs of road users, public transport and maritime traffic while strengthening connectivity across Gothenburg.
