My background is a hands-on education as an electrician. After a while, I lacked professional challenges and decided to study for a degree and add an academic angle. As part of the education as a certified electrician, which included courses on development, business and management, I got an internship at COWI and the rest is history, you might say …
Today, I work with a combination of small and big projects. As part of a big team – sometimes, we are up to 300 people involved in a project – you get to work with a lot of different competencies and personalities. In my team, the youngest is 26, and the oldest 84. That means very different ways of working and acting but also an abundance of knowledge and experience to learn from. Something I find motivating and fun.

Within the buildings market, COWI primarily focuses on industry, with bigger and more complex projects. Whether you work with pharma, data centres or the energy sector, you get a chance to specialise within a certain field – or you can choose to seek new challenges and responsibilities from project to project. For those who want and have the skills, there are endless ways of developing your career.
My workdays are varied and full of professional challenges. Each project has its own complexities and problems. There are synergies from project to project, but we are not selling goods by the metre, so these are individual projects and buildings where specific problems must be solved from case to case.
Personally, I find it very satisfying to be on the big projects. They run for longer periods, and you know that our work makes a real difference and helps the green transition through clever solutions and the use of new technology. It’s also cool to know that we are one of only a few engineering consultant companies that have the size and competencies to work on these kinds of projects.
