At the 2014 MIPIM Awards in Cannes, France, the new mall in Sweden, Emporia, was named the best shopping centre in the world while one of Sweden's largest building project, Max IV, took home the prize for 'Best Futura Project'.

MIPIM is an annual real estate and investment fair in Cannes, France. Last week, two Swedish COWI projects were praised at the grand ceremony. Swedish mall Emporia won in the category of ‘Best Shopping Centre’, which was also the case at the World Architecture Festival in Singapore last year. At the same ceremony, the MAX IV project was honoured with the award for ‘Best Futura Project’.

Emporia opened its doors back in 2012 and with more than 160,000 m² of shops, offices and parking garages, the shopping mall also takes home the prize for the largest shopping mall in Scandinavia. COWI was responsible for geotechnical and structural engineering on the project.
On completion in 2019, Max IV will be one of Sweden's largest building projects. Max IV is a synchrotron facility and together with the European Spallation Source (ESS), a research facility for materials and life science with neutrons will be created – a research environment that will put Sweden firmly on the world map in materials research. COWI is responsible for the design of pipe systems as well as plumbing installations on the project.

"To have a project like Emporia praised repeatedly and MAX IV now also receiving a prize reflects COWI's high overall competency. It’s with pride I say that this shows how many talented employees are in the COWI organisation, setting the stage for new opportunities," says Håkan Adelwald, Senior Vice President of Buildings in Sweden.
