COWI uses laser scanning (LiDAR) from aircraft for the acquisition of highly accurate elevation data of the landscape in order to produce digital height models.

A digital height model consists of several datasets, which describes the terrain, ground surface, buildings and forests.
 
These datasets can be used for performing analyses for the telecom industry, conducting landscape analyses, planning and projecting, 3D visualization of urban and rural areas, calculating noise and assessing visibility and wind conditions for wind mills, etc.

Various projectsCOWI has experience with laser scanning projects since 2000 with different technologies and specifications. Current projects are the nationwide laser scanning of Lithuania and Sweden and the highly accurate scanning of roads with absolute accuracies down to 1.5cm. The technology is being used for road design in Oman.
