Cultural and educational buildings
Learning in inspiring surroundings with an emphasis on sustainability was the brief when Skara got a new secondary school. COWI was entrusted with planning the new school.
In 2011, the municipality of Skara ran an architecture competition for a new school for years 7 - 9 in the central district of Teglagärdet. AART Architects from Denmark won the competition. The new school covers around 11,000 m2 and replaces an existing school, which has been demolished. The secondary school reflects the latest standards and research into educational and environmental issues and energy efficiency, and has been given the environmental classification of ‘Silver’ by the Sweden Green Building Council.
A large and complex assignment in which COWI came in as technical adviser and consultant and provided services across all technical disciplines.
