The LNG terminal will reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the Preem refinery

Process industry Solutions

The Preem refinery in Lysekil is one of the most up-to-date, green and energy-efficient in Europe. It is also the largest facility in Scandinavia, with the capacity to refine 11.4 million tonnes of crude oil each year.

To further improve the refinery, an LNGterminal has been built adjacent to the refinery so natural gas can be used as a raw material in refinery processes. The natural gas replaces other hydrocarbons with a bigger environmental impact, enabling the refinery to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 130,000 tonnes per year. COWI carried out multi-disciplinary planning for the new facility.
