Supporting the European Commission in developing the EU Taxonomy for rail transport

EU Taxonomy Solutions

Rail is one of the most environmentally friendly modes of land transport. The railway sector is increasingly interested in the opportunities of sustainable finance. Several infrastructure managers and holding companies have already issued green bonds and others are entering into discussions.

The results of this study:

  • Assistance to the European Commission in the implementation of the Action Plan on Financing Sustainable Growth in the transport sector by providing sectoral input to the work of the Taxonomy Expert Group as regards investment in the rail sector and projects
  • Facilitation of the rail sector's access to finance by supporting the establishment of technical screening criteria to assess rail projects in the context of sustainable finance.
