extended highway system linking Izmir and Istanbul

The Osman Gazi Bridge crosses Izmit Bay, forming part of the extended highway system linking Izmir and Istanbul, reducing the travel time by around 6 hours.

The suspension bridge has a free span of 1,550 metres between its towers and a total length of approximately three kilometres.

The bridge is built in one of the most seismically active areas in the world, placing additional demands on the bridge’s design.
